Favorite Spice Mix

When it comes to food (for any time of the day), I almost always find myself tending toward the savory track of things. I will almost always choose Eggs Benedict over a waffle or a pancake… I’ll almost always choose savory garlic butter mashed potatoes over a marshmallow-topped sweet potato casserole.

Now, I understand that not everyone feels this way, and I’ve come to terms with it.  I have chosen to overlook this one personality flaw in those of you who disagree with me, but I do want to at least make sure you have the right tools in your tool belt just in case you do decide to come over to the right side of history in your cooking endeavors 😉

For this very reason, I would like to introduce you to my favorite spice mix.  This mix works with just about every veggie and/or meat that you can think of.  Take any meal you make and transform it from uber-mediocre into incredibly delicious with just a few sprinkles.

Equal Parts:

  1. Salt
  2. Black Pepper
  3. Garlic Powder
  4. Onion Powder
  5. (when I’m feeling extra fancy) Oregano 😉

For any vegetable, just toss the veggies in either olive oil or ghee (I prefer ghee because of its higher smoke point), then spread on a baking sheet/stone & sprinkle with the spices listed above. Bake at 400 for about 20-25 minutes, check and toss them on the pan, then gauge how much longer you’ll need after that. I usually like to roast mine for another 10-15 min at least.

My favorite veggies to roast with this recipe:

  • Butternut Squash
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Onions/Sweet Bell Peppers
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Green Beans (add a little soy sauce to these puppies – yum)

For meat, it’s quite simple. Thaw your meat, if frozen, sprinkle with the spice mix, then cook to your desired doneness.

Boom.

What’s your favorite spice mix to use when preparing your own meats and veggies??
